What a brave person Xu is to accept incarceration for his wise words that would go down in history as true and correct words and the words of utmost care and compassion for the welbeing of Chinese citizens.
Thereby I love the concluding remarks of your article that if TAIWAN can achieve it that has residency of mainly Chinese speaking TAIWANESE then the Chinese citizens in mainland China doesnot only deserve democracy but they can achieve it as argued so passionately by one of the contemporary heros of me that I got to read about in your column namely Xu Zhiyong. Then it becomes an utter tragedy that a small piece of land namely TAIWAN would achieve and deliver democratic values to its citizens and economic progress has cometh with it for the TAIWANESE but challenged and threatened by China. The human progress encompassing centuries leading us to 21st century owes this much to humanity where every citizen in a nation state and his rights are protected by the modes of governance and a true democracy can only deliver this feat achieved and formulated by modern states like in US. NO one should ever be incarcerated for speaking in favor of democracy and freedom. Standing for human rights and the right of citizens to freely criticize the method of governance or for that matter the policies of the ruling regime is one of the foundations of a modern state.
